Cookies! Website cookies are used for a lot of things: keeping track of whether or not you're logged in ; figuring out if something can be loaded or not ; finding your location ; learning your name, your gender, whether you like the color blue or red more ; the list goes on.
You'll notice some things on that list are weird and slightly unsettling. Those are for selling to advertisers to make the ads you see more “customized” to your internet browsing experience. This site is hosted in Austria, which means that legally we can't do that without your consent. Lucky for you, I don't consent to that either.
There should only be maybe 5 cookies on this site total and they're all for site functionality.
There is:
Log in cookie. This stores your password on your computer to auto log you in when you open up a tab here. We aren't keeping your password. You are. If you don't have an account (quite likely), this cookie has not been baked. This cookie automatically deletes itself after a year if you chose to stay logged in. Otherwise, it dies when you close your browser.
Preferences cookie. DokuWiki says this is for stuff like editor size. Not sure how applicable that really is, but it also deletes itself after one year. Possibly also remembers your preferred language, but there's no way to check that yet.
Session cookie. This tells the site that it is being used. It deletes itself when you close your browser, but otherwise hangs around *just in case* you decide to come back. All this does is tell the site what to load. It knows nothing of your home life, and doesn't care to change that.
Cookies cookie. This is a cookie that remembers whether or not you've agreed to having cookies. That is all it does.
Captcha. DokuWiki comes with a Captcha check. Whether you have seen the Captcha or not, you got a Captcha cookie (as far as I can tell). I don't know when it expires, but it shouldn't be doing anything. For a frame of reference though, Google's ReCaptcha (which is not this) expires after about 180 days.
If there are any other cookies on this site, they are from plugins that did not disclose this.
This page only covers content directly stored on the wiki. Any embedded videos from other sites (eg Youtube) would have their own cookies and also steal your information. You can click to view the thumbnail without generating any cookies, but should you choose to watch the video, you agree to Youtube storing cookies on your computer. But that's not me; that's between you and Google.
