trainWreck Game and Achievement Guide
under construction 👍
There are four main branches in the base game of trainWreck, each with two endings that can be reached. A bonus ninth ending is gotten after getting both “Tryagaindings” consecutively. The branches themselves are decided based on “route points”, which are an additive variable in various choices throughout the game, while the specific endings are determined by Kyle and Mika's relationships with each other and others.
This goes without saying, but there are spoilers. And yes, I do mean even now, in its incomplete state, this page has spoilers.
The game can roughly be split into 3 parts:
- setting the scene / establishing the difficulty (Mika and Kyle's relationship values)
- deciding which route you'll be in for part 3
- deciding the specific ending based on the branch you're on
Prologue
nothing happens here. its just a tutorial basically. and then you go to pronoun select, which is the only choice that matters in this segment. and then there's the other tutorial that can be skipped after you've viewed it once.
Act I
Choosing to go to the beach, the mall, or staying home doesn't actually do anything other than change the aesthetic for the first few minutes of the game.
Beach
.
Mall
.
Home
.
Ditch/Stay
choosing to ditch or stay will affect autonomous behaviour down the line, but the choice itself doesn't do anything in terms of relationship values.
Ditch
.
Stay
.
Ti'An
uh
Inside
.
Outside
.
Hoki
yeah
Volcano + Day 4
this part is just a fun little thing. choose each choice once and then pick the new choice. this is really your first indication of where Kyle and Mika's friendship is at.
Home
.
Town
.
War
You can answer the phone for an achievement. I actually recommend it.
Day 5
did you know the entire plot was built around getting to this part?
anyway just open the game back up and hit continue.
Act II
this is the part im actively working on, but i remember nothing.
theres some stuff to boost your friendship with various characters. i'll elaborate later.
when you reach ti'an, don't ask any questions unless you want your relationship with the cat to tank.
Looped / Loopless
there is a point. this does affect the rest of act 2, but in small little ways.
"No." (looped)
just follow the path where it leads. when prompted, win. if you lose, you get the most out of the way bad ending ever, and also an achievement. if you win, you also get an achievement for having dealt with my bullshit alternate path. win. if you choose this option and then get a try againding, the option is disabled for the next run for as long as you stay on track for the confusion route.
keep the cat (loopless)
this does some stuff
exile the cat (loopless)
this does different stuff
Hoki (round 2)
this was where i realized having a looped/loopless route was gonna be a pain in the ass.
woods
dont run. i mean you can, you don't get punished for it. but just... ignore the voices and stay put.
college
inspect what you can if you want the confusion route.
idk if there was a third option
either you couldnt go to the woods on a looped run or you could only go to the woods on a looped run. i cant be bothered to open the doc.
day 3
this was where i realized writing the loop successfully destroyed my sense of in game time. this is only day 3.
day 4
suddenly we're actively trying to do things? anyway here's where i finally let you learn something. i think the last time was when we went to the condo?
Day 5
by this point, you should have made several friends, but if you didn't, congrats! anyway have fun.
Act III
this is where you get sent off to your ending branches. thankfully the looped/loopless bit is no longer relevant outside of some dialogue changes, but that has nothing to do with this guide.
Default Route
Route D, the basic endings of the game. You unlock this branch either by spending time with your friends who are not Kyle, or simply not getting enough route points for a different branch. The specific endings are decided by Momi's relationship with Mika and Kyle.
Golden Ending
Momi must have a higher relationship with Mika than with Kyle, and Mika and Kyle must be higher than [i havent decided yet]. In the event of a tie, keeping a certain something a secret from Tori grants this ending, with this ending being the one chosen in a looped tie.
Sacrifice Ending
If Momi has a higher relationship with Kyle than with Mika, or if Mika and Kyle's relationship is below [the same number as above], this ending is achieved. In the event of a tie, telling a certain secret to Tori grants this ending.
What them choices do
so you can try and get one of the above.
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for golden or “choice” for sacrifice
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for golden or “choice” for sacrifice
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for golden or “choice” for sacrifice
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
Forced Route
Route C, referred to in game as the “FComp” (forced companion) branch. You unlock this branch by confronting the issues in Mika and Kyle's friendship while also collecting enough “FComp points”. If you fail to obtain the required FComp points, or if Mika's relationship with Kyle is too high, the next eligible branch will be selected. The specific endings are decided by Mika and Kyle's relationship.
Further details are determined by Mika's relationship with Silver, with a relationship of [number]. If this threshold is not met, Silver cuts ties with Mika. A value below [yet another number] has slight changes to how amicable the break up is. Technically, I have “bad fcomp choices determine silver cutting ties” but i don't actually know if i will be having “good” and “bad” fcomp choices or just another cumulative thing.
Edgy Ending
Mika and Kyle must have a relationship of [number] or lower to get this ending. A value below [different number] has slight changes in dialogue, but is otherwise unnoteworthy.
Reconciliation Ending
Mika and Kyle's relationship must be above [number] to get this ending. May or may not be possible to raise their relationship to above the requirements for the branch, but that matters not since this is the “good” ending of this branch.
What them choices do
so you can try and get one of the above.
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for edge or “choice” for reconcile
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for edge or “choice” for reconcile
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for edge or “choice” for reconcile
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
Lonely Route
Route A, the worst route in the game. You unlock this branch by avoiding everything and just going with the flow, making this another “default” route, albeit one with only bad endings. The specific endings are decided on a comparison between the combined relationship values of (Kyle and the Cat) and (Kyle and Mika) against the combined relationship values of (Momi and Mika) and (Nara and Mika).
Amnesia Ending
Momi and Nara must have a higher relationship with Mika than Mika and the Cat have with Kyle to get this ending.
Insanity Ending
Mika and the Cat must have a higher relationship with Kyle than Momi and Nara have with Mika to get this ending.
What them choices do
so you can try and get one of the above.
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for amnesia or “choice” for insanity
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for amnesia or “choice” for insanity
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for amnesia or “choice” for insanity
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
Tryagaindings / Confusion Route
Route B, the arguably canon route other than the Reconcile Ending. You get this branch by actively trying to solve the problems around you, and is determined by Kyle and Mika's relationship mutually reaching [value]. The specific endings are decided on the values of either Nara and Mika or the Cat and Kyle.
Hollow Ending
If neither Nara and Mika's relationship nor Kyle and the Cat's relationship are above [final number], then this ending is achieved.
Adoption Ending
If either Nara and Mika's relationship or Kyle and the Cat's relationship are above [that same number], then this ending is achieved.
Confusion Ending
Get the Hollow and Adoption endings one right after the other (any order, so long as no other endings are between them), then select the choice (“[whatever the choice is]”) when presented to you. There are no choices beyond that point, so enjoy the ride or skip to the end. It's your life.
What them choices do
so you can try and get one of the above.
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for hollow or “choice” for adoption
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for hollow or “choice” for adoption
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
- “context” - > tl;dr pick “choice” for hollow or “choice” for adoption
- “choice” (values) ; “choice” (values)
